Introduction

Azacitidine (INN; trade name Vidaza) is a chemical analog of cytidine, a nucleoside in DNA and RNA. Azacitidine and its deoxy derivative, decitabine (also known as 5-aza-2′deoxycytidine), are used in the treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome. Both drugs were first synthesized in Czechoslovakia as potential chemotherapeutic agents for cancer.

Uses

Usage: It is a kind of antimetabolite. The main indications are acute myeloid leukemia which cannot be cured with routine therapy, breast cancer, melanoma, colorectal cancer, etc. The main toxicity includes leukopenia, thrombocytopenia and anemia. Nausea and vomiting are common adverse reactions, which can be improved by through long time continuous infusion and using antiemetic 12h or 24 h before treatment.It is a powerful growth inhibitor and cytotoxic agents which inhibits the DNA methyltransferase, an important mechanism for gene expression, Gene activation and silence and a kind of cancer treatment additives with weak antibody activity (gram-positive) used to study the Effect of Combining DNA Molecular in the process of DNA methylation .
